French Butter Bell – Rustic Style | 250g
A simple kitchen tradition that has stood the test of time.
Handmade in Australia by ceramicist Clay Beehive, the French Butter Bell uses an age-old method of storing butter at room temperature. A small amount of water creates an airtight seal, helping to keep the butter fresh while leaving it beautifully soft and ready to spread.
Each piece is made from tactile, speckled stoneware clay and finished with a satin white glaze and subtle grey-black detailing, allowing the natural character of the clay to show through. The base is left unglazed and carefully sanded.
Designed to live on the kitchen bench and be used every day, it holds one standard 250g block of butter and makes a beautiful addition to the breakfast table.

Material: Speckled stoneware clay
Finish: Satin white glaze with grey-black detailing
Capacity: 250g butter
Dimensions: Approximately 13.5cm wide at lid x 7.5cm high
Made in: Australia
How to Use
Allow the butter to soften slightly before packing it firmly into the inner cup attached to the lid, taking care to remove any air pockets.
Add approximately 1cm of cool water to the base and place the lid back into the bell. The water creates an airtight seal around the butter, helping to keep it fresh while allowing it to remain soft and spreadable.
Change the water every few days to keep it fresh.
During particularly hot weather, the butter may soften enough to slip from the cup. Simply press it back into place and refrigerate the butter bell during the hottest days.
Care Instructions
Wash with warm soapy water and dry thoroughly before refilling. Refresh the water every few days.
As each piece is handmade, slight variations in shape, glaze, markings and finish are to be expected and form part of the individual character of each piece.
